Post 1

**This post is for the Race Gender/Media class!!**

After last week's class, I realized the hardships that many people face simply because of their skin color or culture. When someone mentions racism, I tend to think about African Americans, but there are so many other types of people who get discriminated against as well. One young woman, who happened to be of Middle Eastern descent mentioned a time (one of many) when she was considered a "terrorist" after Sept. 11. I can only imagine what it would feel like to be in her situation. In the past, I have encountered ignorant people, who have made racist jokes about my lineage, but it was never out of pure hate. Listening to other people's views on the world has really opened my eyes, and I can't wait to go through the rest of the class to learn how racism and sexism can be avoided in the media.
